Treatment Porcelain Crowns

Our porcelain crowns carry a five year guarantee

If your teeth are cracked, uneven, filled or chipped, then you might like to consider a porcelain crown. Porcelain crowns can also be used to align a crowded mouth or disguise protruding teeth as well as closing gaps or lightening your tooth colour.

Porcelain crowns are different from veneers in that they cover the whole of the tooth rather than just the front surface for a completely natural, even smile. Modern crowns are as strong and comfortable as natural teeth. And these days, a porcelain crown can look every bit as natural as your original teeth with no unsightly black line at gum level.

Our porcelain crowns carry a five year guarantee.

You can have a porcelain crown fitted at our Altrincham clinic with the confidence that your brilliant new smile could last as long as 20 years. All Butterfly Dental porcelain crowns carry a five-year guarantee for additional peace of mind.

On your first visit, your dentist will discuss in detail what you do and don’t like about your smile – and explain the best way to rectify the problem. He will discuss exactly what’s involved in the treatment, how long it will take (normally two visits) and what kind of results you can expect to see when it comes to the ‘big reveal’ at the end.

A 3D preview of how your porcelain crown will look.

The great thing about modern cosmetic dentistry is that you get a chance to see exactly how your brilliant new smile will look – before we start work on your teeth.

Our Altrincham clinic uses the latest computer aided design software to create a 3D image of your new smile which you can view from all angles to check it’s precisely what you had in mind.

At this stage we can fine-tune the tooth shapes and colour and create a striking 3D preview model so your smile can be viewed and assessed from all angles. Once you’re completely happy with the way your new smile looks on the computer, our ceramist will create a 3D preview model which you can handle to get an even better idea of how the porcelain crown will look and perform.

Our ceramist will then take an impression of your teeth to make comfortable temporaries using the 3D preview model, which you wear until your second appointment. Temporary veneers are also an excellent way to trial your planned smile and make any adjustments before the final porcelain crown is created.

Porcelain crowns normally take just two treatment appointments. At your first appointment, your cosmetic dentist will build up any broken down teeth and prepare the others by trimming back a thin layer from around the tooth to make room for the new crown.

When it comes to your second appointment, your dentist will remove your temporaries and fit the completed crown using an ultra-strong multi-layer bonding system to bond it to the teeth.

Finally, your crown will be polished and bite checked ready for the ‘big reveal’. We also like to see you again in a few days once you’ve had time to use it. At this post-treatment check-up we’ll also take a photograph of your new smile for you to take away with you.

Will it be painful?

All porcelain crown treatments are carried out using the latest pain-free anaesthetic techniques. During treatment you can relax and watch DVDs with our DVD goggle in-chair entertainment system or listen to your choice of music.
